This Week: Houston Observes Veterans’ Day; Montrose Civic Club Social; Jewish Books and Arts Festival.

Houston Observes Veterans’ Day

On Veterans’ Day, we celebrate, honor, and thank all those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Over 300,000 veterans live and work in Harris County, making it home to one of the largest populations of military service members and their families in the nation. This year, we honor the 100th anniverary of the signing of the WWI Armistice, as well as the 100th Anniversary of Women in the Marines. On Sunday, November 11th, the City of Houston will host the following festivities in Hermann Square at City Hall:

  • 10AM: US Family Health Plan Health Fair
  • 10:45AM: Veteran’s Day Ceremony, including 21 Gun Salute
  • 12:30PM: American Heroes Parade (begins at the intersection of Dallas St and Bagby St)

In observance of the holiday, the District C office will be closed on Monday, November 12th. Also, please note that the City of Houston Waste Collection and Facility Schedule will change due to Veteran’s Day, with the normal schedule resuming Thursday, November 15, 2018.

Montrose Civic Club Social

TONIGHTSt. Stephen’s Episcopal Church will host a gathering for all Montrose civic clubs. Neighbors will have the opportunity to get to know one another and learn about the church’s community initiatives and new facilities. The event begins at 6:30PM at the Haven’s Center (1827 W. Alabama, 77098). To help support the cost of the event, St. Stephen’s encourages attendees to bring a bottle of wine to share.

Jewish Books and Arts Festival

The Evalyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center is hosting the 46th Annual Ann and Stephen Kaufman Jewish Books & Arts Festival. This celebration includes author presentations, films, concerts, and a variety of opportunities for the community to learn about and experience Jewish literature and performing arts. The event attracts over 10,000 visitors a year, making it one of the largest Jewish Books and Arts Festivals in the nation. The fair will take place:

  • Saturday, November 10th, 7PM
  • Sunday, November 11th and Monday, November 12th, 12PM
  • Tuesday, November 13th, 7:30PM
