This Week: LAST DAY to Early Vote; MPT Cohen Completes Fundraising for Playground for All Abilities; Sunday Streets Comes to Rice Village.

LAST DAY to Early Vote

Today, Friday, November 2nd, is the LAST DAY to early vote for the 2018 midterms in Harris County. Voters will choose in races across the federal, state, and local levels, as well as two important City of Houston ballot propositions. Please note: straight-ticket voting will not enter a choice for the propositions. You must scroll to the very end of your ballot to make your selections on Prop A and Prop B.

All Early Vote Locations are open to all voters city-wide and two are located in District C: the W. Gray Metropolitan Multi-Service Center and the Heights SPJST Lodge 8.

Polls are open until 7PM today.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 6th, from 7AM – 7PM. Those who wait until Election Day to vote must use the designated voting location for their precinct.

Please note that the identification requirements to vote HAVE CHANGED. Voters who do not have a photo ID MAY STILL VOTE if they present an approved supporting document, such as a valid Voter Registration Card, an original Birth Certificate, a copy of or an original bank statement or current utility bill, or other options. Voters who are unable to provide an approved photo ID or supporting document MAY STILL VOTE provisionally. MPT Cohen Completes Fundraising for Playground for All Abilities

The Friends of Oak Forest Park hosted the Festival of Abilities, a family-friendly and inclusive festival benefitting the implementation of a Playground for All Abilities in Oak Forest Park. Mayor Pro Tem Cohen announced that she will complete their fundraising goals with a $150,000 donation from her Council District Service Fund. This will be the first playground for children with and without mobility challenges to serve near-northwest Houston.

Sunday Streets Comes to Rice Village

 

On Sunday, November 4thCigna Sunday Streets will take place in District C’s Rice Village. The following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic from 12PM – 4PM in order to open this area to pedestrians and bicyclists:

  • University Blvd, from Kirby Dr to Greenbriar Dr
  • Morningside Dr, from University Blvd to Rice Blvd
  • Rice Blvd, from Morningside Dr to Kirby Dr

Sunday Streets seek to improve the health of Houstonians by promoting an active lifestyle, as well as to foster community spirit by encouraging citizens to explore their neighborhoods on foot rather than passing it by in a car. These popular events attract up to 25,000 neighbors and visitors and District C has hosted over a dozen Sunday Streets since the program’s inception.
