Ellen In The District
A Message from Ellen
Dear Friends,
Two years ago, I announced my candidacy for the Texas Legislature with a call for "common sense and reasoned discourse." I have worked to reach out to both sides of the aisle to address issues impacting the district, region and state.
During the 80th Legislative session, I worked to represent the district by voting for those issues that constituents said mattered, including accessible healthcare, quality public education, safe and healthy communities, and fair taxation.
Our district encompasses critical institutions including the world renowned Texas Medical Center and Rice University. I am proud to be the first House sponsor of the Cancer Prevention and Research bill that will generate $3 billion dollars for cancer research. As a 38-year breast cancer survivor, I am personally committed to cancer research and quality healthcare. You have said these issues matter to you. I will continue my work to ensure that the Texas Medical Center and Rice University have access to critical funding needed for research.
You have told me that quality public education is a top priority, and I voted for an across the board teacher pay raise and a 13th check for retired teachers. We cannot fail our teachers, and I will continue to support legislation that ensures we have quality public education in the district and the state of Texas.
Most of the issues I work on are not partisan or political. Protecting our children, controlling property taxes, and funding quality of life initiatives are not Democratic or Republican matters. I believe we must reach out to one another with an open hand and not a closed fist in order to get things done. I invite you to learn more about the issues that I have worked on and am committed to supporting in the next legislative session. Please visit the Issues page on this website to learn more.
I am proud to represent District 134, and with your support, I will return to Austin next session to continue the work on the critical issues affecting the district. I am anxious to listen and learn from constituents, organizations and institutions about issues and concerns. If you would like to meet to discuss your concerns, please contact my District Office at 713.627.0134.
I hope you enjoy exploring my website. My office will regularly update these pages with the latest news and events. Again, thank you for visiting my website and for your continued support.
Thank You,![]()
