Houston Municipal Courts Weds First Same Sex Couple

Jun. 26, 2015City of Houston

Today’s historic Supreme Court Decision regarding same sex marriages is being put into action at the City of Houston Municipal Courts Department, where earlier this afternoon, their first wedding ceremony for a same sex couple was performed.

“We have offered wedding services in our court since 2013, to heterosexual couples,  and we are happy to now be able to extend this option to same sex couples as well,” said Barbara E. Hartle, Director and Presiding Judge of the Municipal Courts Department. “We will now be able to perform wedding ceremonies for anyone with a valid Texas marriage license,” Judge Hartle stated.

Tanika Leija and Christina Pruneba did just that. Upon receiving their license, they rushed right over and the court was able to assist them within minutes. Now happily married, the couple expressed their thanks and gratitude for this convenient service.
