The long-awaited Midtown Park, known as the Superblock, will break ground at a ceremony next week.

The Midtown Redevelopment Authority will hold a ceremony on Thursday at 10 a.m. on the project site at 2811 Travis between McGowen and Anita Streets. The project, by the authority and Camden Properties, will cover a 6-acre site with a public park, retail space, a multifamily component and a public parking garage.

MidtownThe project will have a park with three acres of food and beverage anchors, streetscapes and an underground parking garage, developed by the Midtown Redevelopment Authority. The parking garage will have 400 parking spaces.  The retail plaza will be anchored by a restaurant and kiosk near the Metro Rail. A larger greenspace will be on a 2.5-acre site that will accommodate 3,000 guests.

Landscaping will include a series of gardens and trails including the creation of a channel for stormwater management. The six-acre plaza and 2.5-acre park space are connected through an enhanced streetscape along Main.

Camden will develop the multifamily project.

Midtown Park is scheduled to open late 2016.
