The Heights-Northside Mobility Study features a long list of suggested improvements for an area that’s seeing increased traffic because of an influx of new residents.

Transportation Planner Amar Mohite says they looked at the existing street grid to see how it could handle traffic more efficiently. He says they also came up with ideas for funneling that traffic onto major thorougfares and freeways.

“The goal here is to do systemwide planning, take an overall systemwide approach.”

As part of that study, the Planning Department held a series of public meetings, and Mohite says they heard strong demand from residents for new pedestrian and bike facilities.

“They also want to ensure that streets are not widened and they don’t lose their on-street parking and those kind of concerns.”

Mohite emphasizes that nothing in the study is final, and none of the suggested projects have been funded.
