National Crime Victims’ Rights Week

Representatives from over 20 victims’ rights advocate groups and criminal justice agencies gathered at City Hall to be honored by Council for the critical services they provide for Houstonians in need. April 6-12, 2014 was designated as National Crime Victims’ Rights Week to recognize the protections crime victims and their families need to rebuild their lives, and to acknowledge those who fight for these protections.

On the Agenda

Council authorized a contract between the City of Houston and Tommie Vaughn Motors, Inc. for replacement parts and repair services on fleet vehicles utilized by several City departments. The contract is set for three years, with two one-year options. Tommie Vaughn Motors, Inc. is located in the Heights community of District C and is an active participant in the Greater Heights Area Chamber of Commerce.

Good Friday and Passover

Houston is the most diverse city in the nation and our citizens celebrate a multitude of holidays from many different faiths. This week, communities throughout the city will observe both the Christian holiday of Good Friday and the Jewish holiday of Passover. Passover covers a week-long period that began at sundown on Monday, April 14th and will conclude at sundown on Tuesday, Apil 22nd. Good Friday falls within that timeframe, on April 18th. We wish all celebrants a joyous holiday.
