The Houston Museum District has traded in its annual open house to bring four unique and intimate events throughout the year titled the Museum Experience. The Museum Experience focuses on one of four walkable zones within Houston’s Museum District, which is made up of 19 museums. Saturday, July 27, will highlight Zone 3, which includes the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, The Jung Center of Houston and The Museum of Fine Arts Houston. The museums have regular museum hours with scheduled programming between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. All three venues will offer free admission.
There will be special family activities at each of the museums in Zone 3, as well as plenty of options for a snack. In addition to Café Express, located in the MFAH, there will be food trucks located at CAMH and MFAH.
“Creating zones makes it easier for visitors to explore,” said Laurette Cañizares, Museum District Association executive director. “We have such amazing and diverse museums in the district, we wanted to give visitors who were fans of Museum District Day more than one day to plan a trip to the district.”
Zone 3 attendees will receive a sticker so they can take advantage of exclusive specials at some of the area’s most popular restaurants on July 27, such as a $45, four-course tasting menu with complimentary glass of champagne at L’Olivier, 50% off the bar menu at Monica Pope’s Sparrow Bar +Cookshop from 10 am until midnight, 15 percent off the entire menu from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. at The Counter on Washington, plus happy hour pricing at Triniti from 4 until 8 p.m. in the bar, lounge or on the patio featuring $3 Texas beers, $4 bar bites, $5 wines and specialty cocktails.
For those looking to make a staycation out of the experience, downtown’s landmark Hotel ICON, which is located directly on the light rail and just a short ride away, is offering the Museum Experience package. Priced at $239 per night with availability on both Friday and Saturday, it includes valet parking, two drinks at LINE & LARIAT bar, a one-year CAMH family membership and catalog, a $15 gift card for the MAFH gift shop and a 10 percent discount and tote bag at the Jung Center’s bookstore.
