This Week at City Hall

Joint City/County Inmate Processing Examined

The Mayor provided the Council with an update on the City of Houston’s efforts to create a joint processing inmate center with Harris County. This is part of the city’s overall goal of getting out of the jail business and making the booking of prisoners more efficient. A consultant will be hired to determine the general size, shape, location and projected price tag of the proposed center. The city and county will split the cost of the study and you can expect to see that authorization on council agenda next week.

On the Consent Agenda

Houston is one of two finalists in the running to host Super Bowl LI  in 2017. Council approved a resolution in support of hosting Super Bowl LI as part of our formal bid to the NFL, which will make its designation in May. Hosting the game and its related events would generate substantial economic benefits for Houston and would also be a great opportunity to showcase our amazing community. Good luck City of Houston!
