This Week at City Hall

Jan. 24, 2013 Office of Council Member Ellen Cohen

Public Safety Committee Meets

The Precious Metals Unit of the Houston Police Department briefed the Council’s Public Safety Committee on proposed changes to the ordinance that governs businesses that buy and sell precious metals (such as gold, silver, and platinum). Their goal is to reduce the potential for businesses to purchase stolen goods. The proposed changes, which include photographing both the item being sold as well as the seller, will assist law enforcement in preventing such crimes.
