Houston Gearing Up for NBA All-Star Game

On February 17th, the City of Houston will be hosting the 2013 NBA All-Star Game at Toyota Center. This high-profile event will bring multitudes of tourists to the Bayou City and, in preparation of their arrival, Council passed a temporary authorization for increased ground transportation services. The event will incorporate Houston’s rich aeronautical history into its logo and uniforms and will showcase our city by being broadcast to fans in over 200 countries around the world.

MD Anderson Cervical Cancer Summit

The MD Anderson Cancer Center hosted their second annual Cervical Cancer Summit at the United Way. Council Member Cohen provided opening remarks about her experiences as a 43-year breast cancer survivor, as a caregiver, and as a cancer awareness advocate, addressing a packed house that included students, cancer professionals, and survivors. The day-long program included break-out groups to discuss the prevention, treatment, and survivorship of cervical cancer.

On the Consent Agenda

The City of Houston authorized a partnership with AIDS Foundation Houston to provide for the administration and operation of two community residences, one of which is located in District C. These homes provide housing and counseling opportunities for persons with AIDS.
