To help raise both money and awareness for cancer survivorship, Saks Fifth Avenue is partnering with Momemtum Audi, PaperCity Magazine and CancerForward: The Foundation For Cancer Survivors to host 2011 Key To The Cure, a charity shopping weekend at Saks Fifth Avenue Houston Galleria, Wednesday evening, October 19 through Sunday, October 23.
To launch the 13th annual event, Saks Fifth Avenue will host Key To The Cure Kickoff 2011 on Wednesday, October 19, a cocktail party throughout its Houston Galleria store featuring libations, hors d’oeuvres, live entertainment and, of course, shopping. The evening with also honor 17 Houstonians as Houston Forward Movers, all of whom are both civic leaders and cancer survivors. The honorees include: Dr. S. Ward “Tripp” Casscells, III, The Honorable Ellen Cohen, Joann and Bill Crassas, Rose Cullen, Michael Dale, Arvia Few, Wendy Hines, Jackie Martin, Mary Ann McKeithan, Rosie Meyers, Barbara Padilla, Jane Parker, The Honorable Jack Rains, Candice Schiller and Dan Wolterman. A special award – 2011 Flash Forward Mover — will be given to Dr. Andrew C. von Eschenbach, a cancer survivor and former Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and former director of the National Cancer Institute.

Key to the Cure Kickoff 2011, to be held from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm, is chaired by Joella and Steve Mach. Cancer survivors, Kelli and Eddy Scurlock Blanton, Sr. serve as honorary chairs. Trish and Ty Whitcomb serve as underwriting and auction chairs. Academy Award-winning actress and Grammy Award-winning singer, Jennifer Hudson, serves as 2011 National Ambassador of Key To The Cure. Making a special guest appearance at the Houston event will be the youthful Victoria Christian of London, brand ambassador of Clive Perfume, which carries the stamp of the British monarchy as the symbol of the utmost quality and British excellence. Tickets for the Key To The Cure Kickoff 2010 begin at $75.00 per person.
All net proceeds from the event as well as a percentage of sales from the charity shopping weekend will benefit CancerForward. In addition, Saks will also offer a limited-edition Key To The Cure T-shirt designed by Ellie Tahari, available beginning Friday, October 1 and retailing for $35 in Saks stores, Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH stores and on saks.com. One hundred percent (100%) of the purchase price of each shirt sold will be donated to local charity partners.
