Appropriations Committee Chair Jim Pitts (R-Waxahachie) will address the Texas House of Representatives’ appropriations process and the budgetary challenges facing the state currently and in the next legislative session in an upcoming forum hosted by State Rep. Ellen Cohen (D-Houston). The forum is scheduled for 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, May 6, at the Upper Kirby District Center, 3015 Richmond Ave., 77098.
Rep. Cohen (D-Houston), who serves alongside Chairman Pitts on the Appropriations Committee, will follow his remarks with a facilitated discussion. The public is invited to participate in the 90-minute forum.
Chairman Pitts represented District 10 since January of 1993. He has practiced law in Waxahachie for over 25 years specializing in Elder Law. As owner of the Ellis County Abstract and Title Company and a director of Citizens National Bank in Waxahachie, he brings business acumen to his role as chairman. In the 81st Legislative Session, he successfully led the Appropriations Committee to present a biennial budget of $182.3 billion which was unanimously approved by the House.
“The Texas economy is one of the world’s largest, and we have a budget larger than many countries. Working our way through a budget every two years is challenging in the best of times. I respect Chairman Pitts’ leadership and value his insights as we are face critical days of current cuts and budget shortfalls. I appreciate his willingness to travel to Houston and be a part of this forum,” said Rep. Cohen.
